I heard a tune by Billy Joel

I heard a tune by Billy Joel
On my way home last week ago
“And so it goes” came on to send
A simple Irish sounding tune
A lullaby from his voice crooned
As only he can sing & tell.

I looked around for anyone else
That I might know that understood
Such things as Billy singer knows
Inside those waves of subtle tunes
Of meanings about life and rule
About the world and thoughts that move

I tried to think of anyone
That might have felt the same as I
For years and years each time I heard
A lifting tune and pictured life
That eyes don’t’ see
That words can’t tell
And people seldom feel

Could be my wife or
Or friend for life
Or others who found minute clips
Of tonal times that
Raise the touch
Of life as only understood
By singers such as he intoned

The extra gift to us is this
That normal life has yet to feel
The meanings only found in song
In lilting tunes – no masses sing
A view of life and meaning too
In simple heartfelt lilting tunes

Mostly people walk the earth
And live with only hints of worth
Lucky those who hear the tune
Get longer snips and deeper rhymes
To gaze upon the eyes of God
And pass beyond our humble life.
In tunes like those of Billy Joel
